Welcome to Rhenish Primary School

“Ebenezer – Hitherto hath the Lord helped us.”
Rhenish Primary School is an English medium, state, co-educational primary school situated in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Stellenbosch is about 50 kilometers from Cape Town. We cater for children from Reception Class (5 years olds) to grade 7, and have approximately 650 children at the school. Our small classes, of between 25 and 28 children, ensure a personal involvement in each child’s progress, and encourage a love of learning. The Rhenish School was founded in 1860 by the German missionaries of the Rhenish Society, as the first girls’ boarding school in the Cape Colony. The school was taken over by the state in 1901, and it moved to its new spacious and well equipped campus in Krigeville, during September 1984. Rhenish Primary School is well known throughout the country as a centre of excellence, where young girls and boys are educated to assume an active and confident role in our society. At Rhenish we believe in the diversity of education. Whilst success in the classroom is essential, it is equally important to provide our children with the opportunity to try and discover a whole range of different activities and interests. This is possible due to our skillful and dedicated staff, and our superb facilities. We strive to develop our children’s confidence and self esteem so that they are fully equipped to cope with the many pressures and challenges in our society.. Rhenish does not only offer an education, but a way of life that stays with our children for the rest of their lives. The ethos of the school is one of fun, caring and support, and can be felt as one enters the school. A visit to our school during “school time”, which we urge you to do, is the only way to grasp the full extent of what the school has to offer its children.
